Obagi NuDerm is a prescription strength skin transformation system that uses a star ingredient called Hydroquinone. This topical prescription is gold standard for treatment of unwanted pigmented lesions due to the way it blocks the production of tyrosine, which is an enzyme required to produce our skin pigmentation, known as melanin. The system also combines a powerful topical prescription call Tretinoin, this alongside other ingredients within the programme work to rapidly increase the cellular turn over and the exfoliation rate of dead skin cells. So to put it simply, the skin cells are exfoliating and been replaced, while the pigment production has been temporarily inhibited, meaning that when new skin cells are formed, they are so done without the excess pigmentation, allowing for a more clear, youthful complexion. This programme also stimulates collagen production leading to firmer skin, with reduced lines and wrinkles.

Skin ageing is a natural process, however continued daily exposure to UV rays combined with daily lifestyle choices can lead to premature ageing of the skin. Over time he skin may become dull, sallow, rough in texture, wrinkled or saggy with a much reduced cellular turnover rate. Aside from ageing benefits, the Nuderm system is comprised of key ingredients that can help to combat acne and target unwanted pigmentation it has left behind. This is also the perfect system if you are suffering from hormonal pigmentation such as Melasma, or if you have a darker skin type(Fitzpatrick 4-6) and are looking to even your skin tone as you will be contraindicated to IPL (intense pulse light) treatment.

Obagi Nuderm is an 18 week skin transformation programme that is undertaken at home as part of a new skin care regimen. Following your prescription collection we will schedule treatment reviews for you as week2, 6, 12 and 18 so that we can ensure the system is working for you and your desired results are been achieved. This programme can be combined with additional in clinic treatments, these will be discussed at your consultation depending on your concerns.

Results will vary from person to person depending on the extent of their treatment concerns. Most patients will start to see changes in as little as 4-6 weeks. The skin transformation programme consists of 3 phases, each one lasting 6 week. There will be an improvement of results with each phase. These are as follows:
Phase 1, week 1-6: Out with the old! During the first phase your skin cell turnover and exfoliation rate will start to speed up, removing old, dull, dead skin cells. Removal of old skin cells will stimulate new skin cell renewal. During this phase your skin will start to acclimatise to the products, however until then you will experience mild reactions such as redness, peeling and mild discomfort.
Phase 2, week 7-12: In with the new! During this phase new skin cells are been rapidly produced, however are now more evenly toned without the build up of pigmentation due to the effects on Hydroquinone on the pigment cells (melanocytes). Your skin will have also acclimatised to the system so any reactions will be minimal to none and you will clearly see how the NuDerm programme is transforming your skin.
Phase 3, weeks 13-18 : Healthy glow: Your skin will start to feel and look more evenly toned, brighter, firmer and more hydrated and you will be able to enjoy your new skin confidence.
The final phase of this programme can be seen as maintenance. Once you have got your skin to its very best, you will definitely be looking to maintain the results with the Obagi skin care range or in clinic treatments that can be advised.

Prior to any treatment at Staffordshire Skin & Laser Clinic a full medical consultation and assessment will be carried out to ensure there are no treatment contraindications as your safety is our priority. The following is a list of who is not suitable for treatment:

• Pregnancy or breast feeding
  
• Compromised skin, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea in the treatment area
  
• History of skin cancer in the treatment area
  
• Sensitivity or allergy to any of the product ingredients
  
• Allergic or sensitive to Sulfite. Contains sodium met bisulphite a sulphite that can cause allergic type reactions including anaphylactic and life threatening symptoms or less severe asthmatic episodes in certain susceptible people
  

When first commencing on NuDerm your skin will soon acclimatise to the active ingredients, this can take around 6 weeks. During this period it is normal to experience redness, peeling and tightness. This can be reduced by frequent application of the skin Hydrator within the programme. It is normal to feel some stinging when first applying some of the products until your skin becomes use to them. If this is of a concern a treatment programme can be made bespoke to your needs taking this into consideration.
