Thin Lips

Create lip volume and definition while remaining a subtle and natural look.

What are Thin Lips?

Thin lips is a term where the lips have less fullness, plumpness and volume, often appearing narrow and lacking definition. Thinness of the lips can range from slightly thinner to extremely thin. The fullness of our lips is determined by our genetics, and may include some hereditary factors, but our lips can also lose fullness definition during the natural ageing process as well.

With fuller lips often associated with sensuality and youthfulness, people may choose to get lip enhancement treatments such as dermal fillers, which can be used to create volume and definition while remaining subtle and natural in appearance.

FAQs

You’ve probably got some questions, but before you get in touch, we’ve answered the most common ones here.

  • What causes thin lips?

There are a number of factors that can contribute to thin lips and some people naturally have thinner lips due to genetics or hereditary factors. During the natural ageing process we may feel our lips start to deflate, due to the loss of collagen and elastin resulting in less structural support and volume.

Other factors can be contributed to lifestyle choices. Excessive sun exposure also leads to the break down of collagen and elastin, not only in our skin but also the delicate lip area. Smoking can also contribute to thinning of the lips due to a constriction of the blood vessels, reducing the blood flow and oxygen levels to the cells in the lips. Dehydration and poor nutrition are also underlying causes as the lips needs to be hydrated and nourished for optimal plumpness and volume.

  • Can lip thinning be prevented?

Measures can be taken to improve lip health. Maintaining a good diet and hydration will help keep the lips plump, while further hydration can be achieved with frequent application of lip moisturisers. Limiting sun exposure and wearing a daily SPF will minimise the ageing effects caused by UV damage, so opt for lip balms and lipsticks that contain an SPF and reapply throughout the day. Avoid smoking to maintain good lip health and reduce the effects of accelerated lip ageing.

  • What are the treatment options for thin lips?

A hyaluronic acid dermal filler can be a great treatment option for adding plumpness to thin lips, creating shape and definition and replacing the volume lost in the lips during the ageing process. Lip enhancement should be subtle and give natural looking results.

Following your consultation your practitioner will advise on the best treatment for optimal results. We will ensure you have a good understanding of how the treatment will benefit your skin, including any downtime expected, treatment duration and costs.
