Eye bags

Soften and rejuvenate the appearance of eye bags.

What are Eye Bags?

Bags under the eyes may present as a mild swelling or puffiness. The skin around the eyes is much thinner than other areas of the face, and further weakens as we age. As well as a laxity of the skin, weakening of the supporting muscles and a displacement of the fat pad around the lower eye can also contribute to the appearance of eye bags.

For some patients a surgical blepharoplasty treatment may be required, for milder cases in-clinic treatments can be effective.

FAQs

You’ve probably got some questions, but before you get in touch, we’ve answered the most common one

  • What causes eye bags?

A number of factors can contribute to the development of eye bags. As part of the natural ageing process the skin becomes thinner due with a loss of collagen and elasticity, resulting in a degree of skin laxity. There are also changes to the underlying fat pads, which can start to bulge under the skin making them more prominent. Fluid retention and genetic factors are also reasons some people may develop eye bags.

Lifestyle factors such as lack of sleep, smoking, excessive alcohol, dehydration and poor diet can all equally contribute.

  • Can eye bags be prevented?

While we can’t change any genetic factors, the key to preventing or reducing the appearance of eye bags is knowing what is causing them in the first place.

Positive changes can then be made such as improving nutrition and hydration, getting enough sleep, protecting the skin with a daily SPF, using medical grade skincare, staying hydrated and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. These lifestyle changes, in combination with treatment interventions where desired, can all have positive effects on the appearance of eye bags.

  • What are the treatment options for eye bags?

Aside from lifestyle changes, there are a number of treatments that can help to improve the appearance of eye bags.

Medical grade skin care can be beneficial with active ingredients to tighten and improve the skin. This can be done alongside other in-clinic treatments. If eye bags are due to skin laxity, then options such as Ultherapy®, Exilis Ultra 360 and Plasma will all be beneficial in tightening the skin and stimulating collagen production.

Following your consultation your practitioner will advise on the best treatment for optimal results. We will ensure you have a good understanding of how the treatment will benefit your skin, including any downtime expected, treatment duration and costs.
