Hollow Cheeks

Replace lost volume in the cheeks to give a nice subtle lift.

What are Hollow Cheeks?

During the natural ageing process the levels of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid decrease in the skin, as well as volume loss in the underlying fat pads that support the skin. Thus leading to the skin becoming thinner and less supported contributing to the formation of lines, wrinkles, skin laxity and volume loss.

As we age there are several changes that occur in the mid face. One of the most noticeable changes is volume loss, this can give the appearance that the cheeks are sunken or hollow. These changes can be attributed to a number of factors such as the decline in collagen and elastin, volume loss, repositioning and changes in the underlining fat pads all resulting in the appearance of sunken cheeks with visible lines and wrinkles.

FAQs

You’ve probably got some questions, but before you get in touch, we’ve answered the most common ones here.

  • What causes the cheek to drop?

As we age we start to lose volume in certain areas of the face, giving the appearance of droopy, flat cheeks.

  • How can I prevent volume loss in the cheeks?

In order to reduce facial volume loss as we age, it is advisable to avoid excessive exercise, yo-yo dieting and being underweight.

There are several actions you can take to help reduce volume loss in the face, such as consuming a healthy, well-balanced diet and including additional nutritional supplements to support your collagen production, as well as wearing a daily SPF to slow down the effects of photoaging leading to the breakdown of collagen. You may also like to consider hormone replacement and balancing hormone treatments if suitable.

  • What is the best treatment for volume loss in the cheeks?

A dermal filler can be a very safe and effective treatment option for addressing volume loss in the cheeks and mid face region, this can also be performed as part of the a non-surgical face lift, also known as a liquid face lift. As we lose our own natural Hyaluronic acid the aim of a dermal filler is to replenish this skin plumping molecule to lift and add subtle volume giving a fresh rejuvenated look. A dermal filler is a manufactured form of Hyaluronic acid, this is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found within the skin.
