Muscle Relaxing Injections
What is ‘Botox’ ?
Botox is the brand name for Botulinum Toxin manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Allergan. As they were one of the first brands that came to market, everyone has come to know the muscle relaxing injection as Botox, however in effect, this is incorrect.
There are several muscle relaxing formulations on the market. The drug administered is Botulinum Toxin Type-A. For those who have had muscle relaxing injections in the past, they are likely to have had Botox, Azzalure or Bocouture used for treatment.
In clinic following a full consultation and assessment our Nurse Practitioner is happy to prescribe either brand, however if you are unsure or have no preference Azzalure is our most popular Botulinum Toxin type-A used in clinic.
What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Botulinum toxin is a prescription medication and that is very safe and an effective treatment used for a number of medical and cosmetic indications.

The toxin blocks the nerve transition to the muscle so that the muscle stays relaxed for a period of time, resulting in a smoother appearance to the skin.
